A Cathcart North "Perforator" 12-gauge shotgun is a smoothbore barrel firearm, made both for hunting and self-defense. It appears somewhat similar to a Remington 870 with a wooden stock. It can be found, on rare occasions, while scavenging and more often in the possession of human NPC roaming the countryside. It is currently the weapon with the highest damage potential in the game, alongside the Deltec SBS4 shotgun. Without the Ranged skill, the "Perforator" is identified as a Hunting Rifle.
For greater ease of transport, Cathcart's shotgun can be outfitted with a shoulder strap, or simply with a length of string if nothing else is available.
There are two kinds of shotgun shells suitable for use with this model, either solid slug or buckshot, and up to five of one type can be loaded. Total damage potential is roughly equal for both types of ammo, and both cause massive bleeding wounds and severe bruising.
In a pinch the butt of the weapon can be used as a melee bashing weapon. When used as a melee weapon the rifle causes moderate bruising but rarely breaks the skin. Since doing this degrades the weapon's condition quickly, it is ill advised. As with all melee weapons, this attack is much deadlier in the hands of a combatant who is Strong and/or skilled with melee weapons.
