The .308 Cathcart North "Buckmaster" hunting rifle is currently the firearm with the highest range in the game. It appears almost identical to the real life Remington 7600. With crafting, it can be further fitted with a scope, for increased range and vision, and a strap, for ease of carry. Note, however, that when a scoped rifle is slung over the shoulder, the vision bonus is not given, it is only awarded when held in one's hand. Without the Ranged skill, it is identified as a Hunting Rifle.

The rifle can be loaded with up to six rifle rounds in one of two types, either FMJ or SP. Total damage potential is roughly equal for both types of ammo, but FMJ ammo causes massive bleeding wounds and minor bruising, while SP damage is more balanced between the two.

In a pinch the rifle butt can be used as a melee bashing weapon. When used as a melee weapon the rifle causes moderate bruising but rarely breaks the skin. Since doing this degrades the weapon's condition quickly, it is ill advised. As with all melee weapons, this attack is much deadlier in the hands of a combatant who is Strong and/or skilled with melee weapons.
